Welcome to England, the home of rugby and the new Ardmore & Sale Sharks International Rugby Academy!
This programme is aimed at all rugby enthusiasts throughout the world who want to improve their rugby skills with the help of Sale Sharks, the best Premiership rugby team in England, and learn or improve their English language with The Ardmore Group, leaders in educational travel for over 20 years.
The recent collaboration between Ardmore and Sale Sharks has presented the opportunity for young rugby stars of the future to come and learn from the best coaches in the business, while learning English, the language of rugby, in a safe, comfortable international environment.
The English learnt in the classroom will be reinforced on the rugby pitch, with the English speaking coaches addressing the children on tactics, game plans and skills.
Special emphasis is placed on the English game, and study of English. Each Academy has excellent rugby training facilities plus a wide range of additional sport and recreational facilities to complement the training programme. Accommodation is on a full board basis and is provided on the campus itself.
The aim of this course is for the student and their parents to see an improvement in both their rugby skills and in their English language abilities.
W ho can take part?
This course is aimed at boys between the ages of 10-16. Students from all over the world are welcome to come and improve their skills in both language and rugby, whilst being trained by some of the most important coaches in the game.
For the coaches who may travel with groups of students, there is a great opportunity to exchange ideas with the academy coaches, and learn up to date techniques from the coaches of some of the worlds best rugby players!
Sale Sharks, internationally recognised club and winners of the 2006 Guinness Premiership division in England, have been one of the top teams for a number of years. They have some of the best players from all over the world including French, Spanish, Argentinians and Samoans.
Every course is designed by Premiership coaches and uses the latest techniques and training methods available. These coaches are responsible for nurturing some of todays top talent, such as Charlie Hodgeson and Mark Cueto, and they are constantly looking for new young talent from around the world. The sessions will be given in English, and will include key vocabulary for the game.
The coaching will focus on all aspects of the game and may include tackling, taking the ball into contact, ball handling skills, performing skills under pressure. The coaching methods will depend on the age of the students.
In addition to the top class coaching, there will be visits from some of the Sale Sharks players themselves, who will join in with or conduct training sessions. There will also be competitions and incentives to help give the course a ‘competitive edge’.
E nglish and other extra curricular activities
Ardmore will be taking care of the teaching and welfare aspects of the course, providing traditional English boarding school accommodation, and teaching from fully qualified English teachers. The students on this rugby programme will be mixed with students on our International Summer Course to provide the best possible international mix. The lessons will be fully conducted in English, so to immerse the students in the language, and will enhance their listening and speaking skills. The lessons will cover a variety of topics that can be used in everyday conversation, and the rugby specific vocabulary will be learnt on the rugby pitch. The students will be placed into groups according to ability. This will be done by a placement test when they arrive. There will also be an exit test before departure to demonstrate the students progress whilst on the course.

In the evenings, the students will have a supervised evening activity with students from our
International Summer Course to encourage mixing with students of other nationalities and to promote cultural understanding. Recreational activities and off site visits will include one full day excursion and one half day excursion per week. The full day excursions may alternate between a visit to Edgeley Park, home of the Sharks, followed by Manchester city centre for sight seeing, and the Beatles museum in Liverpool, followed by sight seeing and shopping. The half day excursion may include visits to Blackpool and Preston. This will provide the students with the opportunity, to shop, sight see, and relax.

20 lessons per week in international classes
12 hours of rugby coaching by qualified Rugby Football Union coaches
1 full day excursion per week
1 half day excursion per 2 week stay

Stonyhurst College
near CLITHEROE
Stonyhurst College can trace its history back to the 16th Century when this stunning building was a family home. The College is now a Grade I building, listed by English heritage and is located in the picturesque surroundings of a Grade II park and garden - with stunning views of ornamental lakes! There is a strong sense of history and tradition at the school - in fact guided public tours of the house and garden are conducted throughout the year.
The college is situated a few miles from the town of Clitheroe in Lancashire and only about 30 minutes from the busy town of Preston. Stonyhurst is surrounded by breathtaking countryside and there is easy access to Manchester International Airport, rail stations and main motorways.
